Louis Loizou: 2D into 3D Pattern Making
'How Can a Box Become A Garment?
This is a fun approach to creative pattern making; a 2D into 3D workshop for learners with no experience of pattern making. Using boxes and working in pairs, students will learn that there are no right or wrong outcomes and to focus on creating 3D shape and form - a technique that many of the great designers have used.
Joshua Beaty: Fashion Life Illustration
Joshua encourages a spontaneous, experimental and no rules approach to drawing. Under his guidance, students break down their inhibitions and their creative juices flow to produce colourful and expressive creative responses to their subject.
Central Saint Martins arts residency at The Mandrake is part of British Fashion Council City Wide Celebration programme, part of London Fashion Week.
LOUIS LOIZOU
Pattern Cutting and Drapping
Louis Loizou began his career in the technical aspects of design, originally in jewellery making and later as a toilist/patternmaker. After a wide-ranging career as a senior toilist/patternmaker in the industry, he re-focused his career in education, undertaking a number of teaching qualifications. Louis began his educational career on the post-graduate MA Fashion and is now a Senior Lecturer on the BA Fashion course at Central Saint Martins. Inspired by innovative design in all its forms and manifestations, he is particularly interested in the two-way dialogue, between designer and maker. The ‘conversation’ between concept and realisation using technical and art skills and the contribution that the latter make to the design process and the quality and desirability of the designed object.
