CEREUS NIGHTS
Flower Studio
The Mandrake x Cereus Nights
The Mandrake proudly announced its collaboration with Cereus Nights, a visionary Flower Studio that blurred the boundaries between sculpture and floristry. The partnership launched on the 21st June and remained open to the public until 31st August, showcasing a stunning summer display in The Mandrake’s iconic Courtyard.
Designed by Cereus Nights during a week-long residency, the artwork featured a unique floral art. The sculpture was built around the two iconic 150-year-old Tasmanian Fern trees that towered from The Courtyard up to the venue’s Jurema Terrace.
Inspired by the delicate balance between the natural world and human experience, the botanical architect aimed to transform the space into a whimsical haven that blurred the boundaries between sculpture, architecture, and floral wonders. The collaboration was facilitated by The Mandrake’s Creative Director, Maguelone Marcenac, who introduced, spearheaded, and refined the hotel’s Artist In Residence program.
The finished structure was an embodiment of the fantastical relationship between the organic and man-made. Drawing inspiration from The Mandrake’s purpose-built treehouse – a delightful and rustic structure for events and intimate dining – the floral sanctuary captivated visitors and offered another mystical artwork to admire amongst the hotel’s wider impressive collection.
The aim of this ‘Botanic Haven’ was to invite viewers to explore the boundaries of their imagination and reconnect with the enchantment of the natural world. The piece used natural florals and brought together the beautiful contrasts of flora and architecture – evoking curiosity. Whether guests stayed at The Mandrake or dined in one of the restaurants and bars – Waeska, YOPO, and Jurema Terrace – the exhibition offered another artistic touchpoint to surprise and delight visitors.
The Mandrake excitedly welcomed the arrival of Cereus Nights, for what was a residency to remember that summer.
