DAVID PAUL KAY

MURALIST

“Anything is a medium and anywhere is a gallery”
David Paul Kay creates and curates at The Mandrake.

The Mandrake welcomed New York based contemporary artist and muralist David Paul Kay as their second Artist in Residence for 2019.

The Mandrake has been created to ensure all who visit experience a total contrast of spaces; stepping through the entrances dark portal into a different reality; Kay will be using this juxtapose to inspire his piece, deep in the heart of the hotel.

As part of the project, the artist created signed, limited edition bags which mirrored this unique London piece and his ethos that ‘everything is simply complicated’. Kay has previously collaborated with the likes of Montblanc and Cadillac.

This brand new piece was unveiled in its entirety on Thursday 21st March, during an event that welcomed both Charlotte Adigéry (the hotly tipped Belgian-Caribbean artist) and the intriguing Bolis Pupol to the decks for an evening of art and music.

If you want to enjoy more of what our future Artists in Residence have to offer, don’t forget we also offer 5-star hotel accommodation in Fitzrovia, London – in the bustling heart of the West End with Soho just a stroll away.

Kay, who was born in the former Soviet Republic of Georgia and then fled to the United States where he taught himself and developed his black and white style, took over the basement of our luxurious Fitzrovia destination to create a bespoke, evolving mural over 7 days.
