The Mandrake Welcomes multidisciplinary artist, filip custic, To The Renowned Artist in Residence Series
– 20th to 25th january, 2025
From Tuesday, 21st to Saturday, 27th January, Spanish/Croatian born multidisciplinary artist filip custic will begin his residency at The Mandrake in Fitzrovia this month, continuing his exploration of urban environments, identity and technology. Known for his recent collaboration with ARCA, filip draws inspiration from The Mandrake’s creative ethos to develop ‘filip glitch’, a London-based continuation of past performances in Madrid and the Venice Biennale.
From the 21st of January, filip’s art objects will be showcased in a capsule exhibition throughout the hotel. On the 22nd of January, filip embarks on a London-wide journey, where a hyper-realistic, glitching mini-me sculpture fused to his body challenges the boundaries between technology, humanity and art.
Upon reaching Oxford Street at 5:00pm on the 22nd, filip reclaims public space as W1 Curates will signal filip’s arrival with streamed video footage on the screens at the Flannels store. The open invitation to attend custic’s climactic performance at Oxford Street represents a commitment to wider access to disruptive art forms, and a core focus of The Mandrake’s ongoing creative mission that nurtures innovative potential.

about the collaboration with w1
By streaming custic’s performances, The Mandrake and W1 Curates amplify his storytelling, reclaim public spaces, and extend his message of ‘connectivity’ through multidisciplinary art. Their open invitation to custic’s climactic performance reflects a shared goal of broadening access to disruptive art.
“Through filip glitch, I explore relationship dynamics and express them through multidimensional mediums,” custic explains. “My residency at The Mandrake highlights the power of connectivity, where artist-patron collaboration pushes boundaries, unleashes expression, and drives progress.”
about the body of work
Entitled ‘filip glitch’, custic’s London transformation will merge his body with a hyper-realistic mini-me sculpture attached to his hips. Made with electrochromic glass, the sculpture creates glitch effects through programmed visual distortions. Visiting landmarks like Big Ben and Piccadilly Circus, custic engages directly with the city and its public. Open to all, this display blurs the lines between culture, technology, humanity, and art, challenging audiences to rethink their perceptions of the modern world and its ‘landscape.’
about filip custic
“Through ‘filip glitch, I am continuing to investigate relationship dynamics and how to express this through a multidimensional approach to artistic medium,” explains custic. “My residency at The Mandrake represents how powerful connectivity can be, where a collaboration between artist and patron can push boundaries, unleash expression and lead to progress.”
