MIXED MEDIA ARTIST

Artist in Residence with Kour Pour

To celebrate Frieze 2022

From 4th – 11th October 2022, The Mandrake launched a new Artist in Residence with renowned British-born American artist, Kour Pour, to celebrate the 2022 edition of London’s illustrious art fair, Frieze.

Ahead of his participation in Frieze, Kour Pour created several works in the property’s Greenhouse-meets-painter’s-atelier, for art enthusiasts to observe.

Throughout his residency, The Mandrake exhibited a selection of signature Kour Pour paintings and sculptures peppered throughout our hotel space, for visitors to reflect on; and hosted an exclusive behind-the-scenes screening showcasing Pour’s unique process within his Los Angeles studio.

The Mandrake excitedly welcomed the arrival of Kour Pour, for what was a residency to remember this Frieze season.

Kour Pour’s history – as an immigrant who straddles countries and continents – has become his work’s foundation, reflecting his transitory heritage. To Pour, the notion of home is both compelling and chimeric. Being of British and Iranian descent, now a U.S. citizen, and growing up in a mixed-race household, polyglot painter Pour’s ‘home’ is multi-layered, housing multiple identities and truths that have become a part of his art. His creative point of view disrupts simplistic notions of appropriation, originality, and a singular identity.
