The Mandrake x Marco Tullio Siviglia

Renowned artist Marco Tullio Siviglia graced The Mandrake Hotel as the next artist in residence, captivating visitors with his transformative artwork. In the lobby of YOPO, Marco Tullio created a site specific artwork named “Mycelium”, transforming the space into a cave-like gate, a rite of passage through a branching network encrusted with black sands, obsidian and stones. The wall sculpture represents birth and transformation, like the fungi roots that connect all beings.

Collaborating closely with the Mandrake’s creative team, Marco Tullio embarked on a reimagination of the main restaurant space. The result was the emergence of three extraordinary candelabras known as “Vestali”, which seemed to burst out of the walls with mesmerising intensity. Melting seamlessly into stalactite-like formations, these magnificent structures radiated an ethereal glow, reminiscent of the sacred fire tended by the ancient Roman priestesses of Vesta, goddess of the earth.

In the bar area, Marco Tullio’s artistic vision transformed the ceiling into a resplendent golden Ziggurat. From this celestial structure, “Mandragora” took root—a captivating canopy crafted from a fusion of metal, resin, and delicate feathers. Illuminated by ambient light, this intricate installation cast a mesmerising play of shadows and reflections, summoning an hallucination of vibrant colours and evoking the mystical powers associated with the legendary Mandrake root.

Marco Tullio Siviglioa’s residency at The Mandrake left an indelible mark, inviting guests to explore the interconnectedness of life, bask in the allure of divine beauty, and embrace the timeless wisdom of ancient civilizations. As the hotel eagerly anticipated the arrival of the next artist, it stood ready to embark on a new voyage of artistic inspiration and creative exploration.
